Terms & Conditions

Machine Made – The Brother Creative Machine Embroidery Challenge.

  1. Eligibility

1.1 The competition is open to members/readers of Embroidery Magazine and the Embroiderers’ Guild.

1.2 Participants must be 18 years or older.

  1. Entry Requirements

2.1 To enter, participants must submit a statement meeting the requirements laid out in 2.2.

2.2 Entries must be submitted via email to by 5th February 2024 with a statement of: 1. Who you are (tell us about your art practice – up to 400 words) and 2. Describe the work you want to create (up to 400 words).

  1. Prize

3.1 The prize is the loan of one Brother embroidery machine for a duration of 4 months.

3.2 There will be a total of two winners, therefore two prizes, each of one Brother embroidery machine.

3.2 The loan period will commence in late February at a date to be agreed.

3.3 The Embroiderers’ Guild will be responsible for any transportation and insurance costs associated with the loaned embroidery machines.

  1. Judging

4.1 Entries will be judged by a panel of experts appointed by the Embroiderers’ Guild and Brother (Sewing Machines).

4.2 Judging criteria include creativity, originality, and adherence to the theme.

4.3 The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  1. Winner Notification

5.1 The winners will be notified by email on 7th February 2024.

5.2 If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 7 days, the prize may be forfeited, and an alternate winner selected.

  1. Responsibilities of the Winner

6.1 The winner agrees to use the loaned embroidery machine responsibly and in accordance with the provided guidelines.

6.2 Any damage to the machine during the loan period is the responsibility of the winner.

  1. Use in Editorial Content

7.1 The winner agrees to allow the Embroiderers’ Guild and Brother (Sewing Machines) to feature their use of the loaned embroidery machine in editorial and promotional content.

7.2 This includes, but is not limited to, interviews, photographs, and videos showcasing the winner’s creative process and work created.

7.3 The winner grants the Embroiderers’ Guild and Brother (Sewing Machines) a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute such editorial content for promotional, commercial and educational purposes.

  1. Publicity

8.1 The winner agrees to participate in publicity and promotional activities related to the competition.

8.2 The Embroiderers’ Guild and Brother (Sewing Machines) may use the winner’s name and entry for promotional purposes.

  1. Data Protection

9.1 Personal information collected during the competition will be used for the sole purpose of administering the competition and will not be shared with third parties other than as specified in clauses 7 & 8.

  1. General Terms

10.1 The Embroiderers’ Guild and Brother (Sewing Machines) reserves the right to modify or terminate the competition at any time.

10.2 By entering the competition, participants agree to these terms and conditions.

  1. Governing Law

11.1 These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England.
